David Roberts will get to enjoy some home cooking and a short trip home as he and the other competitors in the UARA series invades the Anderson Motor Speedway for 150 laps of side-by-side action.
Roberts, the 2007 Greenville Pickens Speedway Track Champion and resident of Simpsonville, SC, currently stands third in points standings. He trails leader Brennan Poole by 64 points and stands just eight markers behind second place driver Kyle Grissom.
“This series offers a lot of challenges for us as drivers but it is also a lot of fun,” Roberts said before taking the green flag at Rockingham last month, a track that Roberts has always wanted to compete on.
“I thought that back stretch was the longest I had ever seen when I first pulled out for practice!!” Roberts said with a chuckle as he talked about his first time on track at Rockingham.
Roberts came home in 11th place, which sounds good to some folks but for Roberts it was his first finish outside the top ten.
The Rocket had his season high at Kingsport as he finished third. Throw in top ten runs at Hickory and Newport and you quickly see Roberts displaying the consistency that helped him place his name with those of David Pearson, Elmo Henderson, Ralph Earnhardt and the other track champions along the wall of the Greenville Pickens Speedway.
“I am looking forward to the Anderson race. The Porters (Sylvia and Shirley) have made a lot of improvements to the facility. Race fans love and drivers in all classes have been talking about the track surface and how good the racing is now and has been since the work before the season began last year;” Roberts said.
Roberts will be considered one of the favorites but all the drivers will be attempting to keep Brennan Poole from scoring another win.
Poole has four UARA wins to go along with a victory at Salem, Indiana in his first ARCA start.
On the card with the UARA Late Models will be the Front Wheel Drives, BM-Modifieds and the B-Mini Stocks. The grandstands open at 5:00pm with the green flag set for 8:00pm.
