Open Test at Rockingham Speedway in Preparation for Carolina 200 Weekend

Sunoco National Tour Series PR                    April 2010

Rockingham Speedway will hold an open test session on Saturday April 10th for teams in the Sunoco National Tour Series, UARA Series, and USAR Series. This test will allow teams to get a feel for the one mile, high banked, high speed oval in preparation for the events of the Carolina 200 weekend in May. With the race weekend being just over a month away, all the information gathered at this open test will help teams in their quest to conquer “The Rock”.

This test will provide valuable track time for all three series, however none more important than the Sunoco National Tour Series. Not only will the teams need to see how their new Chevrolet Camaro and Ford Mustang bodies handle at high speeds, they will also have to get accustomed to the Goodyear Racing Tires that will be utilized this year at Rockingham. The Sunoco National Tour Series used a different tire manufacturer in their race at Rockingham last season, so this test session will allow teams a chance to get a good feel for their new racing shoes at Rockingham.

Having two and a half hours of track time for the Sunoco National Tour Series machines during the open test will also be a big plus for teams and drivers. The current race weekend schedule for the Carolina 200 has only one forty-five minute practice session listed for the Sunoco National Tour Series teams. This means that the open test session will provide a good opportunity for quality track time, which may be hard to find once race weekend arrives with multiple cars trying to make runs in one forty-five minute session.

Transponders will be available to the Sunoco National Tour Series teams to record lap times. This will be a good indicator as to just how fast these 2010 Camaro’s and Mustang’s will get around the legendary Rockingham Speedway. According to Andy Cagle, Public Relations Director for Rockingham Speedway, the grandstand will be open to the public free of charge for folks to come out and watch the teams make laps in preparation for the Carolina 200. This will be the first chance for race fans in the Carolina’s to come check out the Chevrolet Camaro’s and Ford Mustang’s in action!
