For racers and race fans alike, there is nothing like the first race of the year.
Some drivers may be with new teams, other drivers might have new cars, while other drivers will have their proven and dependable race car ready for another year.
Fans will be walking around checking out the new cars, new paint jobs, and new team combinations in hopes that their favorite driver has the right combination to pick up some wins. For fans of the Greer Dragway, opening day will be this Saturday.

Many drivers have been out to Greer the past two Saturday’s to make a few passes down the strip, just looking for the right gear to give them an advantage when the drag racing version of a Christmas Tree lights up for real on race day.
“Every time I pull up to the tree and light my tires up after rolling through the water box I get excited,” said racer Hank Guyton who also handles the press box duties on Thursday nights at Greer Dragway.
Admission for Saturday will be $10, and just like at the NHRA National Drag Racing events; every ticket is a pit pass. “For some folks on race day, they enjoy walking around looking at all the cars as much as watching them run down the strip,” Guyton added.
Classes for Saturday will include Junior Dragster, Teen Challenge Racing, Foot Brake and the Pro-Class and the racing action is non-stop.
Thursday nights, the track will be open for ‘Test and Tune’ runs. Admission for Thursday nights is only seven dollars.
